What is Cushing’s Disease?
Cushing’s Disease is when the body produces high levels of cortisol (stress hormone) in the body which is caused by a tumor on the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland sends messages to the adrenal glands which are located on top of your kidneys to release cortisol. It is more common in females, and dogs and horses can have it too. Guess this explains why I be doggin out here and also a true stallion at heart 😂, only I would think of something like that. There are 1.2 to 2.4 cases per million people per year, guess I’m very rare. I be trying to tell these people everyone deserves a Passion in their life but not everyone gets the opportunity to have me. It takes up to 1 - 6 years to discover Cushing’s Disease because the symptoms can be confused with other conditions. Symptoms include (I have some of the symptoms):
Depression, anxiety, problems with memory and attention—a general mind "fog"
Buffalo hump, a fat pad between shoulders
Unexplained osteoporosis or brittle bones
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Thinning of skin
Muscle weakness
"Moon" face
Oily skin or acne
Red cheeks
Hirsutism, or irregular hair growth
Unusual weight gain above collarbone
Unexplained weight gain in stomach area
Reddish-purple stretch marks
Poor healing of wounds
Easy bruising of skin
